A bride decides to check her fiancé feelings by staging the kidnapping of herself.

The scene is a fashionably remodeled farmhouse in the countryside somewhere beyond London, where a prosperous and urbane couple are entertaining the wife's former roommate and friend whom they have not seen for twenty years. At first the husband and wife banter, then the friend joins them and a flood of intertwining memories ensues. The action shifts back and forth in time, as recollection of what did-or, perhaps, did not-happen are pondered and, as the tension builds, we are aware that the husband and the friend have become locked in a duel for the wife's very soul. Kate and Deeley are married and live in the country. They are joined by Kate's friend, Anna, and talk of the past. Although it is a past they have shared, their memories of it are not always the same.

Two old friends meet after years of not seeing each other: Miguel, a prisoner who is about to be killed by a troop of the Mexican Revolution; and Luciano, the General of the troop and the man tasked with commanding Miguel’s execution.

Moments that have impacted him and the family, and have turned him into a man he was at the end of his life. The old man is forced to look these events in an objective way, observe them from the sidelines, as the judge and jury of a tragic life filled with regret, bitterness, and bad decisions. At a certain point, it becomes clear that the old man has actually died and is watching his own life.
